In June 2009 the Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Brian Griffiths officially accepted an invitation from the Ministry of Defence to host the 2010 Armed Forces Day national event.
With the current conflicts taking place, now more than ever, our Armed Forces are gaining worldwide attention. Armed Forces Day will allow us as a nation, to show our support and honor the past, present and future of the brave men and women serving our country.
On Saturday June 26 Cardiff will host the UK national event. A full programme of events are planned including a Parade through the City, and in Cardiff Bay a Drumhead Service, fly past by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, military displays, a dynamic air display and an evening concert featuring The Soldiers and Only Men Aloud. (View our Whats on section for full timings.)
On accepting the invitation Lord Mayor, Cllr Brian Griffiths, said:
"It's an honour and a privilege for Cardiff to be the host city of the 2010 Armed Forces Day. Hosting the
event gives Cardiff and the whole of Wales the opportunity to pledge our support to the brave men and women who not
only served our country in the past but continue to do so today.
Wales has a very strong military history with Cardiff housing the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Welsh at Maindy
Barracks. Plans have already begun to make next year's event something of which both Wales and the UK can be
justly proud."
SHOW YOUR SUPPORT and join us for a day that will be full of ceremony, commemoration excitement and most importantly an opportunity to honour the Forces past, present and future.
